History Of Double Rock Double Rock Missionary Baptist Church was founded by Dr. Joseph L. Holmes in 1960. Its goal then is the same as it is presently... "kingdom building". Dr. Holmes served as pastor for thirty-eight (38) years. During his tenure, many souls were saved and numerous ministries and/or committees were formed to assist in kingdom building. Dr. Holmes' legacy continues under the dynamic leadership of the current pastor, E. Joshua Sims. Pastor Sims served under Dr. Holmes for over twenty-five (25) years and is totally committed to God and the flock over which he serves. In addition to the main auditorium, which has a seating capacity of one thousand, six hundred (1600), the church has several other facilities to assist in "kingdom building" and also to help service the needs of the community. The James Taylor Pavilion consists of a large multi-purpose room, ten classrooms and an elegant Executive Boardroom. The Joseph L. Holmes Pavilion, also known as the Community Center is used for recreational activities including basketball and volleyball games, and is also available for rental for various events such as family reunions, banquets, wedding receptions and funeral repast. Double Rock is a wonderful place to worship and praise God. It is a Bible-teaching church and a refuge and source of strength for anyone in need. Double Rock Baptist Church also serves as a beacon for the community. All glory and honor are given to God for the vision seen and acted on by Dr. Joseph L. Holmes and for the wonderful works being done under the leadership of Pastor-Teacher, E. Joshua Sims. |
